Mediation

Mediation is a process whereby both parties attend in meetings with the Mediator who assists them in reaching amicable solutions in relation to their financial separation and any difficulties regarding their children. The Mediator will not give legal advice but is able to guide the parties within the law and can offer solutions which meet the needs of the family.

Mediation is helpful for couples who want to reach their own solutions to the difficulties they face on separation or divorce.  The Mediator can help facilitate their discussions, and enable an amicable resolution for the couple or indeed family.

Clare Thornton is a Resolution trained Mediator.  With many years legal experience as a specialist Family solicitor, she is able to use her knowledge to offer possible ideas or solutions to couples who attend mediation with her.

Mediation is usually a much cheaper and quicker process for families/couples than traditional family law.  In most cases however it is still recommended that the couple attending mediation retains their own separate solicitor to give them legal advice and assistance throughout the process.  This is especially important if financial matters are involved.

Clare says "Mediation is an extremely satisfying way of working for me.  It is not right for all couples, but for those couples who are anxious to reach their own solutions to their own family's needs on divorce or separation, it is invaluable.  After many years of watching families torn apart by the Court based legal system, I happy that at least some couples can benefit from reaching agreements with each other through the Mediation process."
